Klamath Community TV- A Way to Save American Media

I have an idea to create a TV station here in Klamath Falls, OR. And while it will be my first station, it will not be my last.

There is an evil trend happening in America right now. Big TV networks have abandoned their role to inform, entertain and educate the American public about the news, events and sports.

It's not that they were always big TV, but many of the local stations that served the hometowns of America were bought up and affiliated with the CBS's, NBC's and ABC's of the Nation. Sometime in the last century, they realized the local stations weren't making money, so they shuttered the small market stations and ceded the territory to local newspapers and network radio.

You can't really blame them. The big cameras, broadcast journalists and swollen budgets of the 1980's, just didn't translate well into the new century and rather than find a new way to do business, they called it quits and pulled back.

Leaving it to radio and newspapers was equally bad because just when paper started to get expensive and radio decided to take the network feeds from FOX News and put a robot in charge of their programming, the market decided they needed a return on investment from their ad buys.

The death knell for news was soon to follow.

Where once we covered town halls, local police and fire and brought the high school sporting world to your living room, radio, print and TV all called it a day because it didn't pay their bills.

But then came the streaming world. The Netflix phenomenon revolutionized the way we consumed TV. And while the tech can be very expensive if you carry Oscar worthy films, the truth is, if we harken back to the days of local TV programming that is created locally and streamed online to the millions of smart TVs, we can create a TV channel that is considerably more affordable than the broadcast stations from yesteryear, that can cover all the news, sports and entertainment a community can create.

And while I am working to build my first channel here in Klamath Falls, I aim to create a dozens more to serve every news desert that has popped up here in America.

Just because you live in a town that was once booming with TV, radio and Print, dosen't mean the news, sports and videos you create as a community are not worthy of broadcast.

We aim to create a station that serves small town America with all its small town feel and small town appeal because we can do it better, faster and more affordably than ever before in human history.
